Tips and tricks for searching

💡 Some tips and tricks while searching in Lexis® Create DMS

  • Perhaps you don’t remember the exact clause title, but specific wording instead? No problem, just add multiple terms in the search bar and find what you were looking for.

  • When you do an exact search, use quotation marks [“...”] to indicate if keywords need to appear in a specific order. For example: you are looking for a force majeure clause and want to exclude clauses that mention the separate wording. Enter force majeure in the search bar and Lexis® Create DMS will only show clauses that have ‘force majeure’ in that specific order in the title or text.

  • You can combine multiple filters to find information more quickly. For example: purchaser warranties in a 'share purchase agreement' in the year 2021 by Partner A will find results for a purchaser warranties clause in a share purchase agreement by Partner A that was last edited in 2021.

  • With the filter Contract has the words you can search for any term mentioned in the contract you are looking for
    • Think about: counterparty names, Covid-19 or other specific terms

  • Do you have a typical file naming convention at your firm, e.g. including the party names, matter number, version, or document type?
    • Enter this information as a keyword in File name has the words and Lexis® Create DMS will only show you suggestions coming from relevant documents.

  • Want to anonymize a clause
    • Use the smart replace, select the party name used in the clause, and replace it with “the party”.
    • Or ask our edit with AI to anonymise your selected clause/definition

  • Preparing a presentation for an important client and want to advise him on adding a complex clause? You probably want to explain the clause in simple language or, when very complex, visualize the events and effects of the clause: use the view as an "event-effect table” for this.
